Harder, Faster, Stronger with some backing tunes! Our August MixTape is here!

Last month it was all about the European football, this time it’s about the Olympic Games. I had an overtly ambitious plan to compile a mix consisting of one song for each of the 205 participating countries. Unfortunately, due to lack of time and knowledge, that plan fell flat. What we have here is a result of me being left to my own devices. Hope you’ll enjoy the collection.

The artistic hubs on the globe, that usually provide the popular music are represented well as per usual. UK (their team including: NAO, JONES, Låpsley among others), France (Clea Vincent, JUSTICE, Bon Voyage Organization and their hottest musical export at the moment, Christine & The Queens) & USA (Wilco, Jonny P, Emily King, Nick Waterhouse) march into the stadium in great numbers.

GL, Tangents, Madeira, High Highs and the titans of sample based music, The Avalanches, who are back in the game after 16 year hiatus, made their way across the globe from Australia.

Danish dj/producer Trentemøller & neosoul popster, M.I.L.K. , Greece’s electronic wizard Larry Gus (covering Björk and remixinf his fellow countryman, Gioumourtzina); Sweden’s psychedelic rockers, The Amazing and cult-like folk group, Goat; Canadian 90s r’n’b obsessives, dvns and Toronto-based, pop chanteuse, Charlotte Day Wilson arrive with their national flags held high. They are followed by young Irish folk star, James Vincent McMorrow and Dame Róisín Murphy; punky youngsters, Mula of Dominican Republic and Iceland’s Júniús Meyvant and Polish artists, Zimowa & Das Komplex.

NY based multinational collective, Holy Forest, bring the African continent closer via musical guests appearances from the veteran soul singer, Preachermann, and Gambian Kora masters, Youssoupha Sidibe and Tata Din Din Jobarteh. The same goes for the exotic psychedelic weirdos of Flemigods, who traveled all the way from Bahrain via London.

And finally the hosts on this competition, Brasil, bring the samba-tinted musicianship of Roge, Fabiano Do Nascimento & Tiganá Santana “into the game”.
