AUGUST is Mixed now for you! #MixTape

Another month, another mixtape. Without further ado let’s jump straight into the mix, shall we? As usual we have a selection of little bit of everything from everywhere, united by the theme of “what’s hot right now”. There are some big names such as MICK JAGGER, TRICKY, LANA DEL REY, STEVIE NICKS and TORI AMOS making waves again, as well some debuting artists to check out before they blow up into massive stars or sink into the oblivion: YEHAN JEHAN, snny, KÁRYYN, LIL PEEP. Many of them hail from across the world: WELLHELLO from Hungary, MASHROU’ LEILA from Syria, IVAN DORN - Ukraine, AMADOU & MARIAM - Mali, FRANSKE PIGER – Denmark, DENYA OKHRA – Tunisia. Some tracks herald the highly anticipated albums which will arrive later on this year: LIAM GALLAGHER’s “For What It’s Worth”, GRIZZLY BEAR’s “Three Rings”, THE NATIONAL’s “Karin At The Liquor Store”, others have been handpicked from the LP’s that are currently rocking the charts: ARCADE FIRE’s “Put Your Money On Me”, FLEET FOXES’ ‘Fool’s Errant” or LANA DEL REY’s “Groupie Love”.

I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t include a handful of fresh tunes from Poland in this month’s mixtape. The fact that Polish scene has been providing a steady stream of interesting music for quite some time makes me very happy and extremely proud. Among the artists selected this time, two of groups deserve special stamp of approval, namely BLUSZCZ and SUTARI. The former is an indie dance project, who’s debut LP, “Junior”, is one of the best albums to come out out of Poland this year and the latter is an all-girl ethno trio, serving an acoustic folk music built around some really gorgeous, traditional vocal harmonies.

KAMP! strike again with the second single, “Turn My Back On You” from their upcoming, yet to be titled album. The boys played a sparkling gig in Dublin’s Button Factory few years ago and here’s hoping that they may pay us another visit at some stage once the album drops. Speaking of Polish artists in Dublin, I’ve got some exciting news. HEY, one of the biggest rock groups of the last couple of decades has just confirmed their live date at the very same Button Factory. In the early 90’s the band, fronted by the lyricist and vocalist, Kasia Nosowska, had provided a Polish(ed) version of grunge rock for my fellow countrymen. Since the HEY went through a steady sonic evolution, modernizing their sound, both being true to their rock roots as well as stating relevant and fresh sounding at the same time. Their Irish gig is a part of their FAYRANT tour, celebrating band’s 25 years on stage. Expect the hits, a large dose of nostalgia, some special guests and a lot of good, ole rock energy. Last but not least, I have to mention POGODNO again, the alternative rockers I’ve included in the last month’s playlist. After the unfortunate cancellation of BeatRoots Festival, the band has announced an Irish mini-tour with dates in Cork (August 24th in CRANE LANE THEATRE, Wexford (August 25th in CROWN LIVE), Dublin (August 26th in D-LIGHT STUDIOS) and Limerick (August 27th in DOLANS). Make sure to check their energetic shows if you’re around there and then.

I will leave you and the music to get to know each other. Enjoy and make sure to tune in next month for more amazing sounds. If you missed any of the previous selections, check them out Takeyourseats.ie archives.

Peace out!
