Dublin theatre lovers, mark your calendars for a chilling courtroom drama that dives deep into one of history’s most notorious murder cases. From October 21st to 23rd, 2025, The Anatomy of Burke and Hare will take centre stage at The New Theatre, presented by Naming Cows Theatre following a sold-out run.
A Gripping Tale of Murder, Betrayal, and Justice
Set in Victorian Edinburgh, this powerful new play by Darragh Gilhooly explores the twisted relationship between William Burke and William Hare—two men whose friendship spiraled into a deadly partnership. Burke was convicted of murdering sixteen people in 1828, while Hare turned state witness, sparking questions of loyalty, truth, and betrayal.
Audiences will be transported into the courtroom where Burke faces trial, and Hare’s testimony reveals secrets that challenge the very nature of justice. Who speaks the truth? Who manipulates the law? And what led these men down such a dark path?
