About the play

“Imagine turning up at the door of a house. A house you’ve never seen before, in a town you don’t know. A house you’re going to be living in, with people you’ve never met. And all you have is a black bin bag. A bag that carries your whole life…”

Inspired by real stories, Quintessence Theatre use their innovative physical ensemble storytelling to explore the lived experience of children in care in Ireland and expose the failures of the Irish foster care system. Devised by the company, SOME OF OUR CHILDREN is a compelling — and often comedic — drama that amplifies the voices of some of the State’s most vulnerable citizens. Audiences at earlier performances called it “true to life”, “incredibly powerful” and “emotional and hard-hitting, but also funny”.
