What’s the event about?
ANU Productions returns with The Good Luck Club, a powerful new immersive work created in collaboration with the National Archives of Ireland. This landmark production invites audiences into the hidden world of the Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes — the global gambling enterprise that fuelled a young nation’s hopes and finances.
Luck wasn’t chance; it was an industry. Inside the private spaces of the National Archives, audiences encounter the stories of thousands of women who opened envelopes laden with longing, luck and last chances. As you move between rooms steeped in whispered ambitions and official records, the tensions of 1920s and 1930s Ireland unfold — a world built on hope, heartbreak, and a ticket to something better.
Part of the National Archives of Ireland’s Census 1926 programme.
